SHORT SHARP SHOCK

ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK/MARTINI HENRY RIFLES/GINDRINKER/THE SOUTHERN ELECTRICS PLAY CLWB IFOR BACH, January 21st

“NME always dreamed of a band like Japan's Electric Eel Shock. A band willing and able to rid the world of sexually retarded indie schmindie dullards while spunking in the face of accepted notions of cool” - NME

Conceived in Japan sometime towards the end of last century, toughened up on self-financed world tours, and now holed up in London plotting their next manoeuvre, Electric Eel Shock stake a strong claim to being one of the best live bands in the world. Frontman Aki Morimoto is the spirit of metal incarnate, bassist Kazuto Maekawa wears a leather jacket like no-one since Joey Ramone, and drummer Tomaharu ‘Gian’ Ito has a habit of taking to the kit entirely nude.

An early single, ‘Do The Metal’, came out on Swansea’s Mighty Atom, but the patronage of metal gods Bruce Dickinson, Lemmy, and Judas Priest producer Attie Bauw has seen them progress through rock’s ranks at terrifying speed, culminating in 2005’s legendary LP ‘Beat Me’. Support on the night comes from cult Cardiff favourites Martini Henry Rifles and Gindrinker, plus rock newcomers The Southern Electrics. Tickets cost £6, available now from Spiller's Records or the Clwb website
